Sunday, January 30, 2005 [ Gibby po. move and quotes ]

Looks like Gibby will probably be playing at first base this year since we may very well be getting Sammy Sosa. Wow. That was a bit of a shocker. Anyways, they are trading Hairston and two prospects.

Here are some Gibbons quotes I just found and thought were pretty damn funny or just freakin awesome.

"I definitely would have liked to play with Mickey Mantle. He was a lefty, like me. And he fought injuries and all kinds of other stuff and made it out there every day. He could run the bases, hit for power, just a good all-around player. And the movie 61* was a great movie. I have watched a lot of tape of Mantle, and he was an awesome player.”

"It's goofy looking, I'm goofy looking. It has a big head, I have a big head. It's pretty close. I think mine is the best; you've got your bloated Sidney Ponson and Jerry with that brown stuff on his pants." --on his bobblehead (Jay, you are NOT funny looking! you are friggin hot! and the bestest baseball player, don't deny it! haha. you are too dang modest!=D)

"I can't remember hitting a grand slam in my life before. I got the ball. It cost me a couple of bats, but it makes a good Father's Day present.." - Gibbons - Orioles Hangout - 6/13/03

"It was kind of hard to enjoy it when I hit it because I wasn't sure it went out. I started running again [after the reversal] and I thought, 'Wait a minute, did I even touch first?' I couldn't remember, so I went back and did it again. I'm glad it's in the books now. ... He can have the ball. Hopefully there's a lot more to come." - Gibbons on his first homer - Baltimore Sun - 5/5/01

The fan who grabbed Jay Gibbon's first homerun ball on Eutaw street gave it to Gibbons during last Saturday's game. It had been widely reported that the fan wanted a lot in return, but he told Gibbons that it was just a misunderstanding and handed it to him asking for nothing in return. Gibbons will mail it to his father. "He came over to the dugout and said, 'Hey, Jay, here's your ball.' I asked him if he wanted anything for it, like a bat or something. He said, 'No. I'm sorry, it was a whole misunderstanding and I'm terribly sorry. Here's your ball and enjoy it.' And that was it. He was very nice about it. I'm happy to have it." - Gibbons on getting his homerun ball back - Baltimore Sun - 5/26/01

"It was absolutely an amazing night. It was impossible not to get choked up. Me and everybody else were hanging on his every word." - Gibbons on last night - Washington Times - 10/7/01 (night Cal retired)

"I had almost forgotten how to get in line to shake hands after a win." - Jay Gibbons - AP - 4/12/02

"I have no chance of getting a triple unless the outfielder falls down. I'm not hitting for the cycle anytime soon."." - Jay Gibbons on falling a triple short of hitting for the cycle - AP- 4/15/02 hahahahahahahahahahaha., too friggin funny!

"Geez. Whose side are you guys on anyway." - Gibbons joking with reporters who keep printing his first pitch stats - Washington Post - 4/23/02

"I woke up at 10 a.m. to see if I still had a job. I said, 'Good,' and went back to sleep for another hour. It was a lot easier. It felt like a huge weight was lifted." - Jay Gibbons - Baltimore Sun - 8/31/02

How the flip is this dude so awesome? Not cool, not cool at all. I need tickets. I shall have my parents order with me this weekend. It will be like a 3 month early present.

PS: I can get my learners on Thursday =D
